    Writing for ourselves. There are a number of reasons to write for yourself: Keeping a journal record of your ideas and their development; Reflecting* - using writing to help you recognise the progress you have made academically and personally in your time at Nottingham. Sometimes a book can be called from the dust and the dark to produce a book which can be bought in shops, and perhaps it is interesting, but the people who buy it and read it because it is interesting are not serious people, if they were serious they would not care about the interest they would be writing thousands of words to consign to the.

    Academic writing is not the only kind of writing worth learning about, and it is not the only potential use for this book or this class. When you are writing for yourself, you may have more flexibility in what form(s) writing takes, its tone and choice of language. Writing for others will involve considering your reader and the purpose of the piece of writing so that you clearly communicate your intended evidence, ideas and argument to the reader.
